Director’s Statement

The original idea for the plot of Outlawed came when I was operating off the coast of Somalia as an armed maritime security team leader. My role was to detect, deter, delay and defend against pirate attack groups in and around the Indian Ocean. In command of a fire team of men I was responsible for consulting the ships Master on current intelligence reports and the ships defences. Although this included a lot of hard work and training, long days at sea meant I had a lot of time on my hands. It was during this downtime that I decided to start writing the original story. When I returned to the UK, I developed the script further with my co-director Luke Radford, having previously been impressed with his work. His vast knowledge and experience within film making has been an invaluable asset in the production. As a tutor of film, his expertise have countlessly been relied upon and his continued efforts and resolve have never faltered. The decision to make the film independently without any backing came from a desire to simply get the film made. I was confident in the story, and had a burning desire to start filming as soon as was feasible. Our passion and belief in the picture, as well the dedication of a very talented cast and crew made it an immensely enjoyable and rewarding experience, which we believe shines through in the finished film.

Our home city of Nottingham is very much at the heart of Outlawed. The professional cast and crew were almost exclusively from the city, and we were extremely proud to be able to offer on-set opportunities to some fantastic young talent from The Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies. Furthermore, the film simply could not have been made without the phenomenal support of our local council, Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire Service, all of whom generously gave their time and dedication to help make the larger scale shoot days possible. We were also fortunate to have the collaboration of supremely talented stunt performers, whose past credits include Star Wars, Mission Impossible: Fallout and Transformers: The Last Knight, as well as the stunt rigger who worked on the design and rigging of the wire work on The Matrix.

We cannot thank everyone enough for supporting and helping us on our journey to creating this motion picture. We feel it is a testament to what can be achieved when people come together with passion and dedication for film making without a large budget. A huge thank you and congratulations to all of our cast and crew, we could not have done any of it without every single person that was involved and now is the chance for us to give a little something back. The ticket sales money for the screening and theatrical release will be donated to the veterans charity Combat Stress to help those affected by the conflicts overseas. A percentage of all worldwide sales revenue generated for Outlaw Pictures Ltd will also be donated to the charity organisation.

As a former serving Royal Marines Commando with operational experience this is something that I hold close to my heart. Transitioning from a civilian to a Royal Marines Commando was not something that came easily to me, I had the wrong attitude at first and a young head on my shoulders. But the corps soon whipped that out of me and made me the man I am today. Everything I’ve done since being presented my green beret has been either directly or indirectly through my experiences in the Royal Marines. I owe a lot to the corps and to my fellow service men and women. I can now proudly say we have official partnership with Combat Stress for the charity event 'movie premiere and limited theatrical release' here in the UK.

Massive thank you for our amazing distributors at Vision films for securing global sales and international release.

We hope you enjoy!
